Phobia - Dark and alone
This is one particular case of a 32 year old woman, Anne-Marie, who was terrified of being in the house on her own especially when it was dark outside. If it was dark outside she would switch on all the lights in her house and keep all the doors open. She would also have the television volume turned up loud so that she couldn't hear any strange creaks from the house. If it were in the daylight hours she would always leave the back door wide open - so that she didn't feel trapped and could make a quick exit if needed. The fact that a wide open door was more of a security risk didn't come into her thinking. Anne-Marie, now aged 34, had never been on her own alone in a house until she was faced with the prospect one weekend. Her children and husband were all going to be away. After one hypnotherapy session to address the night-phobia problem she faced the weekend on her own. She was amazed that she slept happily and well for two nights, television and lights all turned off and all doors firmly shut. There has been no recurrence of the phobia. |
